CULTURAL EROSION - A rapid depletion in cultural and traditional values & artforms with a long history of ages over time.
A Case study - INDIAN ARTFORMS & TRADITIONS.
The Indian subcontinent, as a geographical region over its long history of ages, contributed countless glorious things to the whole world around and the people within. This land has seen many empires rise, civilizations fall, many arts grow &, many designs and ideas flow.
India as a country is the most diverse and the most elegant one. Not about the present circumstances nor the situations and politics. A country with a million artforms and more than atop a thousand languages. One of the oldest civilizations in the world (The Harappa & Moenje Daro), One of the earliest music and dance origins, One of the first fully established primary languages (Sanskrit) &, the list goes on.
India is said to be the country that laid the foundation for Mathematics (Algebra, Trigonometry, Calculus), Cosmology, Surgery, Chemistry &, Literature. Our Shastras, Dharmas &, Vedas are some of the great human texts ever written. Indian sculptures, writings, languages are beautiful and profound. But this is all history. India was ruled by many rulers of different backgrounds and cultures, enhancing Indian traditions with time and supplementing richness to the diverse heritage.
India has a rich literary heritage. Indian Literature is very sound and very smooth at the same time. The country itself delivered one of the finest writers, poets the world has ever witnessed.
And, with time, there arose different beautiful art forms, which are rich and eminent. Many dance forms, beautiful songs, many paint forms, diverse sculptures, exemplary literature, etc
Every edge of India is packed with various stories and diverse arts.
Indian Dance forms include Bharatanatyam, Kuchipudi, Kathakali, Kathak, Manipuri, Odissi, Bhangra, Garba, and many folk dances are sumptuous.
India is rich in its music. Indian Classical music is very grand and artistic. And, there are many types of music come under the category of light classical or semi-classical. Some of the forms are Thumri, Dadra, Bhajan, Ghazal, Chaiti, Kajri, Tappa, Natya Sangeet, and Qawwali.
And when the topic is about painting, crafts and, design, India delivered the best in centuries. Artforms like Madhubani, Kalamkari, Tanjore, Kalighat, Cheriyal, Phad, Warli Gond &, Pattachitra are eternal.
And Indian Sculptures &, Architecture is unique &, phenomenal. Yes, some countries have better Architecture than India, but India is notable in its way.
And there are many modern art forms like theatre, puppet tradition, storytelling which are already in danger.
But today, the point is, this rich heritage of ours that arose from centuries before, is vanishing day by day. No one frets about traditions, art forms &, cultures today. Neither did the governments care much in eras. Who knows? the end may be too near. But, it's our responsibility to preserve them and pass them down to the next. Yeah, I know we cannot do that alone. But at least, we can spread awareness in people about the importance and influence of art and traditions. At least we can teach kids about the benefits and the harmony that develops.
It's never too late to learn something. So, even if we're not interested, let us encourage people to engage in activities besides their academics too. Because, academics are just criteria of living a secure and wealthy life, not a peaceful and beautiful one. Art makes our lives beautiful; it enriches us and develops us. A mortal without knowing the value and beauty of history and art is a tree without roots.
